Around Liphook
The Square and the Royal Anchor
The Royal Anchor is a Grade II listed former coaching inn on the old London–Portsmouth road.
Bramshott churchyard
St Mary’s churchyard at Bramshott holds the graves of 318 Canadian soldiers who died locally, mostly in the 1918 flu epidemic.
Liphook station
On the Portsmouth Direct line between Haslemere and Liss.
Ludshott Common and Waggoners Wells
Open heath and a chain of wooded ponds on the Grayshott side of the parish, popular for dog walks. The heath paths are sandy, and the woods by the ponds get muddy in winter.
Liphook Bonfire and Carnival
Held in late October since 1903, with a procession of floats through the village followed by a bonfire and fireworks.
Flora Thompson’s Liphook
The author of Lark Rise to Candleford lived here from 1916 to 1928 while her husband was postmaster. The roads Lark Rise and Candleford Gate are named after her books.
What Liphook carpets and sofas need
Saturday bookings
If you work away during the week, Saturday between 8am and 6pm is often easiest. Book early in the week for the best chance of a Saturday slot.
Tired lounge carpets
Lounge carpets go grey in the busy routes long before they wear out. A small or medium living room is £100, and the guarantee is simple: visibly better or you don’t pay.
Sand and mud from the commons
Walks on Ludshott Common and Bramshott Common bring fine sand and mud indoors on boots and paws. Let wet mud dry, vacuum it up and don’t scrub it into the pile. If the hall or lounge still looks marked, a lounge is £100 and stairs are £100.
Stairs, landings and bedrooms
In two-storey houses the stairs and landing take the most wear. Stairs are £100 and bedrooms £60 each, so you know the total before I arrive.
